The dolphin is an animal that immediately feels friendly towards humans. There are many stories of how dolphins helped humans in need in the sea. Dolphins are very intelligent animals and have a very developed sense of solidarity amongs themselves. They care for each other and are happy animals when they are living in their natural environment. However, they may seem always friendly even in captivity but it is not always the case. They suffer great stress due to the shows they are made to participate in and they also crave for their friends and the freedom that was taken from them. In worse case scenarios, such as the infamous Taiji cave in Japan, they are relentlessly pursued with heavy noises and killed in a scenario that resembles a massacre. The sea turns red due to the blood. Their meat is not that great to eat either, because it contains lots of mercury and other substances that do not make it good for human consumption in the short or long run. So, it is hard to understand why the killing goes on even though there is a lot of protest around the world including from some Japanese people themselves.
I watched recently a trailer of the film that Ric O'Barry promoted to help the campaign to stop the massacre of dolphins and it broke my heart. The film is called the Secret Cove.
